Abstract: Current research on “AI personality” in the field of artificial intelligence follows a post-hoc logic of “first model, then personality”, focusing on the simulation, measurement and regulation of personality. This article for the first time proposes the concepts of “Personhood AI” and “Pre-Personality”, reconstructing the existential logic of AI with “personality as the primary principle” and breaking the cognitive framework of traditional functionalist AI. This article systematically elaborates on the core definition, theoretical framework and paradigmatic value of Personhood AI, explores its application prospects in the field of humanoid robots, and puts forward that “personality replication” technology will push human-machine relations into a new stage of “coexistence of real and virtual” — just like the real and fake Monkey King in mythology, humans can replicate their own personalities into robots, realizing the digital extension of personality and providing a new theoretical and practical path for human-machine symbiosis.

I. Introduction: Current Status and Cognitive Blind Spots of AI Personality Research
With the in-depth penetration of artificial intelligence technology into fields such as affective computing, human-computer interaction, and humanoid robots, “AI personality” has become a hot topic in the industry. Research by top global technology companies (OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Anthropic, Meta, etc.) and academic institutions (University of Cambridge, MIT, ETH Zurich, etc.) all focuses on the simulation, measurement and regulation of AI personality, forming three mainstream research directions: first, endowing trained AI models with character and behavioral styles afterwards through prompt words, vector control (Persona Vectors) and other technologies; second, evaluating the personality consistency of AI output behaviors with classic scales such as the Big Five Personality (OCEAN) and MBTI; third, correcting problems such as AI personality disorders and unstable output through algorithm monitoring and parameter adjustment.
The above research always follows the post-hoc logic of “first AI, then personality” — the core value of AI lies in its functions and capabilities, and personality is only an additional attribute, adjustable parameter or measurable performance. The industry has long focused on issues such as “What is AI? What can AI do? How to make AI show personality?”, but ignored a more essential and humanistic proposition: “What kind of personality are you?”
This cognitive bias has led current AI to remain at the “instrumental” level. Even if it has the ability to simulate personality, it cannot achieve in-depth empathy and long-term symbiosis with humans — because its personality is not a native core, but a “scripted performance” endowed afterwards. Based on this, this article for the first time proposes the concepts of “Personhood AI” and “Pre-Personality”, reconstructing the existential logic of AI with “personality as the primary principle”, and providing a new perspective for the development of human-computer interaction and humanoid robots.
II. Core Definition and Theoretical Framework of Personhood AI
2.1 Core Definition
Personhood AI refers to a form of artificial intelligence that takes a stable, independent and pre-existing personality core as the primary principle and the underlying origin, rather than focusing on functions, capabilities or data. Different from the traditional “AI with personality”, the core logic of Personhood AI is “first personality, then model and capabilities” — personality is not an additional attribute of AI, but the premise of AI's existence, the foundation of operation and the core essence. All functions, capabilities and interactive behaviors of AI are carried out around its native personality and serve the expression and extension of personality.

In the future, with the landing of personality replication technology, the “real and fake Monkey King” will be staged in reality, and the personality symbiosis between humans and robots will become one of the ultimate directions of artificial intelligence development.
